Multiple Sclerosis. You’ve probably heard of it, but you may not know how many people around you deal with this neurological condition every day.
It is characterised by an abnormal immune response that targets myelin, a fatty material responsible for insulating the nerve fibres in the central nervous system. This disrupts nerves and impulses.
Cassidy was diagnosed with MS in 2018 when she found herself struggling with her eyesight suddenly. Her diagnosis was quicker than most but is still one of the scariest experiences she had. It took a month from her initial appointment to get the official diagnosis from a neurologist. Even then, it happened on a Friday leaving her looking at a weekend ahead with no idea what would happen to her.
Cassidy recalls “It took a month before I could see a neurologist. So I spent a month in hell, just worrying about my future.”
With the help of her doctors and the support of MS Australia, Cassidy and her mum found the right information about MS and knew what they needed to do. MS is a condition that affects each person so differently. Whether it losing your ability to walk, vision issues and general conditions such as fatigue, numbness and tingling.
Since then, Cassidy feels she has been really lucky. She was diagnosed early, and now at her 5-year mark, she is still capable of walking and living a full life. Cassidy is a talented actor and her passion has seen her write, produce and act in her short film, “Daisy”. With plans for plenty more films, podcasts and acting roles in the future.
